Our first wine from 2019 is in bottle and ready for release on Thursday 21st November and this year we’re celebrating its 20 year anniversary!
We always reveal our New Release on the third Thursday of November which. some may also know as Beaujolais Nouveau Day! This inaugural event is marked in France on the third Thursday in November with fireworks, music and festivals. Under French law, the wine is released at 12:01 a.m., just weeks after the grapes have been harvested. Parties are held throughout the country and further afield to celebrate the first wine of the season.
We first decided to challenge this French tradition in 1999 and our aim was to rival the Beaujolais sales around Totnes with our white wine alternative. Over the years word has spread and sales of our New Release now go further afield but the tradition of celebrating Beaujolais Nouveau Day in the U.K has also dwindled.
Quite simply, it is a celebration of the harvest and by producing a wine that is bottled seven weeks after the grapes were picked it gives the drinker an opportunity to taste the immediate fruits of the vintage.
Our 2019 New Release is 85% Madeleine Angevine, 10% Bacchus and 5% Pinot Gris, a classic blend for our style. Madeleine arrived into the winery from of oldest vineyard site on September 20th with Bacchus arriving three weeks later. The wine was carefully blended and bottled on 7th November and has settled in bottle for two weeks.
A total of eight weeks from vine to bottle and bursting with ripe stone fruit, tinned peaches and pear drop aromas and expressing tonnes of fruit on the palate with the signature spritz that sits perfectly alongside the zippy acidity. This year we bottled 1392 bottles in total and as usual it doesn’t last long! Get yours here!
