CEO & Head Winemaker
Duncan Schwab is CEO and Head Winemaker and first joined us in 1992, when he came to Sharpham to get some wine experience, following his father’s purchase of a three-acre vineyard in Cornwall. Twenty eight years later and Duncan is one of the most experienced and reputable winemakers in the UK. He lives in Ashburton with his wife Chloe, their two girls and young son and loves drinking old wine.
Charlie Brown has been with us at Sharpham for six years now and has rapidily developed into a thougtful and creative winemaker. Charlie has also spent time working harvests in Stellenbosch, the Barossa Valley, Yarra Valley and Nyetimber to hone his skills and develop his knowledge. He loves a good coastal walk, and pairing bacon and eggs with Barolo.
Alex has been the vineyard manager at the larger of our two vineyard sites, Sandridge Barton, for 15 years now where he joined us from Camel Valley in Cornwall. Alex has really immersed himself in the Devon life and loves to fit in a round of golf when he can.
Our Vineyard Manager at the original Sharpham site, Peter Sudworth joined us in 2001 after a varied career in Britain and abroad, including six years working in South Korea. His interests include music, cycling, growing organic veg and restoring vintage guitars.
Paddy joined the Sharpham team after working in the on trade sector for a specialist Sardinian wine importer in the midlands. With two harvests under his belt at Sharpham, Paddy is building his winemaking repitore whist also driving our wine sales and reaching a broader audience across the country.
Abby Smith is Office Manager & Accounts. She started at Sharpham in 1992 following a career change after being a full time professional foster parent for twelve years. In her twenty eight years here she has been a part time cheesemaker, helped out at events and tastings and worked in the shop. Now Abby manages all the accounts and keeps our paperwork and finances in order! She is a keen singer, performing regularly in a choir and is proud grandmother to Oscar, Scarlett and Edi.
Having spent the last few years working as a Sommelier overseas, Tom returned to England and was immediately impressed with the quality of wine being produced on our own soil. He joined us from renowned restaurant Gidleigh Park where he worked as a Sommelier. Tom has a passion for travel, has surfed his whole life and is constantly looking at developing his wine knowledge.
Bryony joined Sharpham in 2018 after spending many years travelling abroad. During her travels she found herself in the beautiful Wahiki Island, NZ where she worked for Saint Claire and Manowar. After a stint in Bordeaux she finally settled in Devon and brings passion and worldly wine knowledge to the team.
